International Pediatric Critical Care Trials: Challenges, Barriers, and Opportunities

Despite increasing research in pediatric critical care, the number of multicenter international trials is still limited. Experience from adult critical care has demonstrated the value of establishing strong and sustainable collaboration to be able to escalate large-scale studies during periods of urgent need such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will comprise lectures, panel discussion, and attendee participation. Speakers will describe the challenges, barriers, and opportunities in international pediatric critical care trials to facilitate useful discussion on planning future trials.

  • Outline the current challenges and barriers to international pediatric critical care trials
  • Propose possible sustainable solutions to encourage collaboration in pediatric critical care trials across multiple regions
  • Evaluate proposed solutions to identify potential areas of failure of such initiatives
