This session will discuss market forces affecting matriculation of internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, and anesthesia professionals into critical care training programs and how it is influencing political turf wars in medical and surgical ICUs.

Learning Objectives:

Examine the political and economic forces driving physicians into critical care and how these vary across anesthesia, surgery, and emergency medicine
Discuss various pathways of postgraduate training of physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses in critical care careers, as well as a 2025 official professional statement paper on graduate training
Discuss the postgraduate training of pharmacy residents and how it was originally built off the scaffold of postgraduate training of physicians, including what works and what does not work
