Xenotransplantation has made substantial leaps during the past few years with several high-profile cases making the news. This session will discuss the potential benefits of xenotransplantation and the patients who are most likely to benefit, as well as other issues that must be addressed before xenotransplantation is a clinical reality. The potential for multiple organs from a single donor animal and the unique immunosuppressant needs of the recipient will be discussed, as well as the ongoing ethical, moral, and religious beliefs surrounding xenotransplantation.
