AKI in patients with cirrhosis could be because of hypovolemia, acute tubular necrosis or hepato-renal syndrome(HRS). HRS is a diagnosis of exclusion and seems to be very rare , so the question for the clinician is ,' does HRS even exists?' It is important to know the aetiology as the treatment will be different. In this talk, we will address the various aetiologies of AKI in patients with liver failure and describe the various diagnostic and treatment modalities available especially with the approval of Terlipressin in the US. Indications, side-effects and importantly when to stop terlipressin will be discussed.
