While adult ICU trials can use more resources and rely on patient engagement, pediatric ICU sleep research is hampered by several obstacles to accurately describing how critically ill children sleep. Dr. Hassinger will provide an overview of the tools available to measure sleep architecture and the circadian rhythm and highlight the appropriate application and limitations of each. This information is critical to widespread monitoring of this phenomenon by clinicians at the bedside. As these tools are available for all, this topic would apply to adult ICU bedsides as well incorporate the unique challenges across the pediatric age-spectrum.
