Rob Grabenkort, PA, MMSc, MCCM: Prior to my retirement, I was a cardiothoracic critical care PA for over 40 years and practiced in both community and academic hospital settings. For the last 30 years I was employed within the Emory Healthcare system and toward the end of that term developed a 1 year critical care residency for NPs and PAs as codirector with my NP codirector collegue. Following my retirement, I spearheaded a national effort to establish an accreditation process for these PA clinical postgraduate training programs. Currently over 15 of these programs have now been accredited through the ARC-PA.
Throughout my career, I have been active within SCCM. Since joining the Society in 1980, I have been involved the following areas: established the PA section and served 2 terms as chair, a speaker and moderator at various Congress presentations- most recently in 2020 and by invitation in 2023, cochair of the APP Resourse Taskforce/Committee, served on the Congress Planning Committee, the ACCM Credentials Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee. I have authored several publications within the Journal and SCCM textbooks concerning APPs in critical care medicine. Currently I am serving on the ACCM Nominating and LEAD Committees.
I became a fellow of the College in 2002 and have mentored many PAs and other critical care practitioners through the application process for fellow. I was inducted as a Master of Critical Care Medicine at Congress in 2024.
