Joshua B. Kayser, MD, MPH, MBE, FCCM is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Medical Ethics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kayser is board certified in Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is a member of the Department of Medicine and the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Penn. He is the Vice Chief of Medicine, Section Chief of Medical Critical Care, and Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Philadelphia VA Medical Center. He also serves as the Chair of the Critical Care Committee and oversees medical emergency operations at the Philadelphia VA. Dr. Kayser’s clinical, administrative, research and educational expertise include critical care administration, ethics and professionalism, ICU communication and conflict management, and end-of-life care in the ICU. Dr. Kayser is an active medical educator at the Perelman School of Medicine where he teaches humanism, professionalism and bioethics.
