Dr. Hidalgo’s professional experience is marked by leadership and dedication to critical care medicine, both in clinical practice and academia. From 2007 to 2020, he led the Critical Care Division at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), Belize's primary referral center. His commitment extended beyond clinical roles, including serving as Chief of Staff at Belize Healthcare Partners (formerly Universal Health Services) . Dr. Hidalgo’s involvement with the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) has been prolific. He has held multiple committee memberships and chaired several international symposiums and conferences. Noteworthy is his role as Co-Chair for the 49th Annual Joint Congress FEPIMCTI-SCCM and his leadership in organizing Central American and Caribbean Consortiums of Intensive Care. His work earned him numerous accolades from SCCM, including the Safar Global Partner Award and the Distinguished Service Award, reflecting his influence.
Dr. Hidalgo was named Master of both the ACP and ACCM, distinctions that acknowledge his leadership, clinical excellence, and educational influence at an international level.
Dr. Hidalgo has also demonstrated expertise in disaster and trauma management, as evidenced by his training in Trauma Systems and Mass Casualty Management at Rambam Healthcare Campus in Israel. His work during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplifies his ability to mobilize and educate healthcare professionals effectively, as he led numerous training sessions endorsed by international organizations such as the WHO and PAHO.As an editor and author, Dr. Hidalgo has contributed significantly to medical literature, especially in critical care, obstetric emergencies, and tropical diseases.
Currently, Dr. Hidalgo serves as the President of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFICC), where he continues to lead global initiatives to enhance critical care practices. His career exemplifies a blend of clinical excellence, academic leadership, and international collaboration, making him a prominent figure in the field of intensive care medicine.
