Stefan Leichtle, MD, MBA, FACS is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Northern Virginia. He is the Director of Research for the Surgery Service Line, Associate Trauma Medical Director, Associate Program Director of Inova’s Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and an Associate Professor of Medical Education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Dr. Leichtle obtained his medical degree in Germany at the Technical University Munich. He trained in General Surgery in Ann Arbor, MI and completed a Surgical Critical Care and Trauma fellowship at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center. He holds an MBA degree from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, Boston, MA.
Dr. Leichtle is locally and nationally engaged in surgical leadership, research, and education. He is the immediate past president of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and Vice-Chair of the Virginia Committee on Trauma. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Board of Surgery Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE) Surgical Critical Care Curriculum and the American Journal of Surgery.
Dr. Leichtle’s research interests include trauma resuscitation, traumatic brain injury, value-based trauma care, and implementation science. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters.
