Dr. Ashley Hink is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), specializing in the treatment of traumatic injuries, emergency general surgery conditions, burns and critically ill patients. She obtained her undergraduate degrees at North Carolina State University and her master’s in public health at Emory University. Prior to attending medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, she worked in health services research at UNC Chapel Hill. She completed her residency at MUSC, and her surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Hink is a public health researcher with a focus on injury and violence prevention, including the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of firearm injury. She is the founder and medical director for the MUSC Turning the Tide Violence Intervention Program, the first hospital-based violence intervention program in South Carolina, and one of the first in the Southeast. She has obtained grant funding for programmatic and research work from entities including the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research, the Department of Justice, and the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education. She is active with national organizations including the American College of Surgeons, working to promote the integration of violence prevention strategies into healthcare systems.
