My name is Emmanuel Ukenenye, M.D. I am an Internal Medicine Resident at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, which is a renowned city of its own on the world stage. The type of cases and clinical presentations I saw at large tertiary hospitals in Lagos while growing up drew my curiosity toward the field of Critical Care. I eventually left the shores of Nigeria to complete my medical school and broaden my knowledge. My medical and cultural awareness and experience blossomed as I got exposed to a different climate in the Caribbean while attending my medical school, known as Windsor University School of Medicine, St Kitts, West Indies. Due to my performance, I was retained to work as a teaching assistant in the same school after graduation. I later left for Jamaica where I advanced my clinical skills by undergoing internship training and then serving as a Senior House Officer and Medical Officer. During this journey, I passed the USMLE and Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board test (PLAB) and eventually matched in my current residency program in New York. In my spare time, I love to use my hands, such as drawing, painting, playing video games, and playing sports (cricket, soccer, table tennis). This also made me love Critical Care Medicine as my hands are put to good use in addition to critical thinking. I look forward to pursuing a career in Critical Care Medicine.
