Tarek Dawamne is a fourth-year medical student at Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine, pursuing his MD and MEng degrees. Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, he moved to Texas in 2014 and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in chemical engineering in 2020. During medical school, Tarek developed an early interest in medical education and mentorship, founding the First Generation Mentorship Program at his school and volunteering with MindMatter Houston. His extracurricular work focuses on increasing access to medicine in underserved communities on a local and global level through service and innovation. He joined the Texas A&M Academy of Physician Scientists as a Burroughs Wellcome Scholar 2023-2025. Outside school, Tarek enjoys volunteering at free clinics, performing stand-up comedy, and baking pizzas from scratch.
