Annie Batten MD is a second-year Pediatric Resident at Maine Medical Center. She is originally from the Greater Boston area and completed her undergraduate studies at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Before embarking on her medical career, she conducted research in comparative animal physiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she focused on hypoxia tolerance in deep-diving seals.
Annie earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, where she participated in the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track, a program that deepened her passion for addressing the social determinants of health. Throughout her medical training, she has been actively involved in advocacy initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access for underserved communities.
Currently, Annie is the recipient of a Resident CATCH Grant through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), where she is leading efforts to improve community access to essential resources. She is also involved in quality improvement initiatives through the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS)- Barbara Bush Children's Hospital chapter to reduce unplanned extubations in the pediatric intensive care unit. .
Looking ahead, Annie is excited to pursue a career in Pediatric Intensive Care, where she hopes to combine her clinical skills, research experience, and advocacy work to make a meaningful impact on the lives of critically ill children.
