Dr. Aarti Sarwal, is the Section Chief for Neurocritical Care and Professor of Neurology at VCU Department of Neurology. .She completed a neurology residency from the University of Missouri followed by a Fellowship in neurocritical care at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She holds active certifications in neurology (ABPN), Neurocritical care (UCNS and ACGME), neurovascular ultrasound (ASN) and clinical informatics (ABPM). She served as Medical Director for the Neurocritical Care Unit at Wake Forest, and Section Chief for Neurocritical Care where she built the clinical, education, and research program. She initiated the neurocritical care fellowship there as initiated several multicenter clinical trials. Within the Department of Neurology, she served in various roles including quality officer and served on several key institutional committees including the Institutional Promotion and Tenure Committee and Intramural Research Support Committee. She continues to be the course director of Wake Forest's well-known neuroultrasound courses while faculty at VCU as well.
Dr. Sarwal’s academic interests include non-invasive monitoring, critical care ultrasound, neuro-ultrasound, ventilator related complications and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). She is also working on creating dynamic clinical decision-making tools in reducing disparities in stroke triage and care.
