Dr. Wonsuk Oh, PhD, is a machine learning researcher whose overarching career goal is to discover clinically meaningful patterns in patients’ medical records and develop optimal treatment strategies for higher quality and cost-effective patient care. He holds a master’s degree in computer science and a doctorate in health information from the University of Minnesota. His studies focus on (1) the development of rigorous machine learning methods for extracting relationships from large amounts of clinical and claims data, which is particularly important in inter-correlate diseases (e.g., sepsis and AKI) and their temporal progressions and (2) the distinction between useful clinical findings (e.g., subpopulations and outcome-specific risk factors) and typical findings (e.g., serum creatinine increases the risk of AKI).
