Wren Sherrill Adkisson, MSN, APRN, AGACNP-BC, is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and an Assistant in Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. With over a decade of experience, she excels in critical care, mentorship, education, and research.
Mrs. Adkisson earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Belmont University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University, specializing as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She began her career as a bedside critical care nurse at VUMC and later served as a pioneering Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at Massachusetts General Hospital on the Neurosciences ICU APP team. Returning to VUMC in 2018, she joined the MICU APP team and Pulmonary ECMO program and was instrumental in the COVID-19 ICU response. A passionate educator, she precepts APP students, teaches ECMO simulation, and leads ultrasound workshops. She also co-founded and chairs the VUMC Critical Care APP Mentorship Program.
Mrs. Adkisson’s research focuses on critical care topics such as ECMO and APP mentorship. Her work is published in high-impact journals and presented at national conferences. She also contributes to multicenter ECMO trials funded by prestigious grants.
An active member of professional organizations, she serves as a Social Engagement Ambassador for the Society of Critical Care Medicine and has held leadership roles in the Neurocritical Care Society. Known for her clinical expertise, leadership, and dedication to mentorship, Mrs. Adkisson is committed to advancing critical care medicine and fostering the next generation of providers.
