Dr. Michael H. Sherman, MD, MA, FACEP, is a physician-educator and researcher advancing healthcare through innovative education, research, and clinical practice. Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Sherman earned his MD and master's degrees from Boston University. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Hospital and fellowship in Internal Medicine-Critical Care at Brigham and Women's Hospital as a Harvard Medical School Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Sherman's clinical expertise focuses on acute care and resuscitation, while his educational expertise lies in bridging classroom-to-bedside clinical medical education and mentoring future physician leaders. Notably, he developed the first ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine/Critical Care fellowship program at the University of Massachusetts and mentors critical care fellowship applicants nationwide. In 2022 he received the UMass Memorial Health Innovator of the Year Award. Dr. Sherman also mentors HealthTech startups and has co-founded several health innovation companies. His research explores acute care, resuscitation, innovation, and quality improvement in Emergency Departments and Intensive Care Units developing innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes, education, and healthcare delivery.
