Dr. Dinesh Nirmal is an internal medicine resident at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York. With prior training in critical care medicine at Apollo Hospitals in India, he has developed a strong interest in managing critically ill patients, particularly in the areas of point-of-care ultrasound, mechanical ventilation, and chronic pulmonary diseases.
Dr. Nirmal has been recognized for his dedication and excellence in patient care, earning the Intern of the Year Award at Downstate Medical Center and the Resident of the Year Award at Kings County Hospital Center. His research contributions include publications and presentations at international conferences, focusing on topics such as pulmonary fibrosis, COPD management, and the validation of scoring systems for non-invasive ventilation failure prediction.
As a member of the Special Treatment and Research (STAR) track, Dr. Nirmal is committed to improving care for patients with HIV and advancing critical care practices through research. His ongoing projects explore the role of Protein Phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in lung fibrosis and the application of evidence-based tools in critical care settings.
Dr. Nirmal remains deeply committed to serving his community and fostering education. He aspires to further his training through a pulmonary and critical care fellowship to integrate research and clinical expertise into improved patient outcomes.
