Melanie Hew, MD is a third year pediatric resident at Nicklaus Children's Hospital (NCH) in Miami, FL. Dr. Hew was born and raised in Miami, FL and from an early age knew she wanted to become a pediatrician. She became a lead volunteer at Ventilator-Assisted Children's Camp sponsored by NCH (then known as Miami Children's Hospital) while in high school. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in psychology from the University of Florida, where she was also a Child Life volunteer and head of the Pediatric Division of the medical honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED). She attended medical school in California, where she was president of her school's Pediatric Society, a student director for the Healer's Art program, and a volunteer at ClinÃca TepatÃ, a free clinic for underserved, primarily Spanish-speaking patients in the Sacramento area. She returned home to Miami for residency at NCH, where she is completing her third and final year. Next year she will be Chief Resident, while applying for fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine.
