Dr Jon Silversides is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Critical Care at Queen's University Belfast, and a Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. He undertook clinical training in the United Kingdom and in Toronto, Canada, where he developed a research interest in the effects of fluid overload on recovery from critical illness. His PhD (2015-19) and post-doctoral research included the RADAR-2 feasibility trial comparing conservative fluid management and deresuscitation with usual care. He is now leading SepTIC-FLUID, one arm of the 3758-patient SepTIC trial running in sites across the UK, which is investigating the clincial effectiveness of conservative fluid management and deresuscitation in patient with sepsis (https://septictrial.co.uk), and other clinical trials such as SINFONIA (Sugammadex for prevention of post-operative pulmonary complications - www.warwick.ac.uk/sinfonia).
