Volume replacement is an essential part of resuscitation of the patient with septic shock. Hypervolemia has been associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. This session will focus on how to de-resuscitate the improving septic patient.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the appropriate time to begin de-resuscitation of the septic patient
  • Demonstrate the venous excess ultrasound (VExUS) protocol and other sonographic tools to help guide de-resuscitation techniques
  • Describe modalities to assist in de-resuscitation of the septic patient
