In this session, we tackle a systematic approach to searching for reversible causes of persistent altered mental status. This includes a search for unrecognized drug effects and uncommon metabolic derangements – with a step-by-step guide of how to do this. As well as a look at the yield of common neurologic tests (such as the head CT, EEG and lumbar puncture). We review what you may find, how it will change management, and what to do if despite all these investigations the cause of AMS remains unclear.
