Andrea Montano Ballesteros, MD is a second-year Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, FL. Dr Montano was born in Quito, Ecuador when her father was finishing medical school. She developed a deep interest in human sciences early on in her life and ultimately decided to attend medical school. During her early career years, she affiliated to an international medical students association (IFMSA) and worked in many projects based on medical education and community outreach. She also became a youth leader at the Fundacion Diabetes Juvenil del Ecuador (FDJE), where her leadership skills were created by supervising and motivating more voluteers to become youth leaders. During this time, Dr Montano reinforced her interest in teaching both medical students and members of the community. She decided to continue her medical education in the United States, so Dr Montano moved to New York where she studied for the USMLE exams while working as a medical assistant in a private office. Dr Montano complete her pediatric training at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in 2023 and is currently completing her training as a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellow.
Outside of work, Dr Montano enjoys camping with her family and her dog, water sports like paddleboarding or kayaking. She also loves to bake and cook, mostly ecuadorian food.
