I completed medical school at College of Medicine University of Ibadan in 1985. I emigrated to to the United States in 1987 for graduated medical education in pediatrics. I completed my pediatric residency(1988-1991) at Metro Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio; My Fellowship training in pediatric critical care was completed at Mott's Children Hospital, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1991-1994). I joined the Tulane Faculty (Department of Pediatrics, Critical Care) in 1996. At present I am a full Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Tulane. I was Section Chief and Director of PICU from 2003-2005. I left Tulane (after hurricane Katrina, August 2005) for a 2yr. hiatus at LSU Shreveport as Section Chief and Director of PICU from 2005-2008.I returned to Tulane in 2008 as Director of Tulane PICU from 2008-2019. My primary interest is patient care and clinical research. My research interest is in non-invasive ventilation in pediatrics and use of simulation in medical education and PICU training.I raised all my children in New Orleans with my wife of 35 years, Dr. Aderonke Akingbola, an adult gastroenterologist at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. Together we have 3 adult sons: Mr. Bayoji Akingbola (Assistant DA, Harrison County, Houston, Tx); Dr. Bolaji Akingbola (3rd Yr. Internal Medicine Resident at Ochsner Hospital) and Mr. Tomi Akingbola ( Final Yr. MS at Tulane School of Medicine). My hobby includes writing, bicycling and playing music with tenor, alto and soprano saxophones.
