Joanna (Han) Nguyen and Aida Salauatova are fourth-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) candidates at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in Richmond, Virginia, anticipated to graduate in May 2025. Aida is here to present the findings while Joanna cannot attend the meeting in person.
- Under the mentorship of Dr. Gretchen Brophy, Pharm.D., BCPS, FCCP, FNCS, MCCM, Joanna serves as the first author on research investigating the neuroprotective potential of high-dose statins in traumatic brain injury (TBI) using the TRACK-TBI database. Her research focuses on analyzing biomarker trends and clinical outcomes in TBI patients receiving high-dose statin therapy, complementing two parallel studies examining angiotensin receptor antagonists and atorvastatin-specific treatments in TBI. She has managed increasingly challenging clinical rotations and multiple research projects while maintaining academic excellence. With an interest in pursuing post-graduate year 1 pharmacy residency, her current areas of interest include emergency medicine, infectious diseases, and critical care.
- Working collaboratively with Joanna and two other PharmD students, Aida makes significant contributions to the research projects through comprehensive literature searches and patient data reviews for analysis. Her clinical experiences span various pharmacy practices, including neuroscience intensive care, emergency medicine, and industry clinical pharmacology. With an interest in pursuing fellowships, her current areas of interest include clinical development and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic studies.
