Jose Chavez DNP RN ACCNS-AG CCRN, is a doctoral prepared Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) covering the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California and an Associate Professor at Cal State University of Los Angles. He has been a nurse for 17 years; he was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Nurse Corps Reserves from 2012 to 2020. He is an active member and serves on committees of NACNS, AACN and SCCM. He was designated Associate of American College of Cardiology in 2018 and designated Fellow of Critical Care Medicine in 2023. He is the recipient of the 2022 President’s Award at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and 2022 recipient of President’s citation award for Society of Critical Care Medicine. He was a Beacon reviewer for AACN and a reviewer for American Journal of Nursing and an item writer for the AACN Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification Exam. He is the Chair of the SCCM Nursing Section and the President-elect for UCLA AACN Chapter. He was an editor for the latest edition of the AACN Procedure Manual and he has authored numerous publications including journals and books contributing to the nursing profession.
