Odiraa Nwankwor, MD, MPH, FCCM is a Pediatric Intensivist at the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Wilmington Delaware, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He is graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He completed his residency training in pediatrics at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center/New York University program, Brooklyn, New York, and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland. He holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. He served as a fellow of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program, and currently a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu. He is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE).
His interest is in global child health. He focuses on capacity building and strengthening health systems and services in the delivery of care for children who are critically ill or injured in resource-constrained environment. In 2019, he led a team from Nemours Children’s Hospital and Cooper University Hospital to establish the 1st organized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Nigeria, at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu.
He currently Chairs the DEI Committee of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the Nemours Children’s Hospital and is an active member of the DEI Committee at Jefferson University. He served as a member of DEI Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), New Jersey Chapter.
He has won numerous academic and community services awards including Faculty Teaching awards (2017 & 2018), South Jersey Magazine Top Doc (2020 & 2021), African Community Service award (2021) and Sidney Kimmel Medical College Deans Award for Excellence in Education (2021).
