Allison Thompson is a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, where she has practiced for the past five years. She also serves as the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing where she oversees the Advanced Practice Nurses within the hospital and Nemours satellite sites. Prior to her current leadership and clinical role, she was the Advanced Practice Provider Manager for the Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider team and Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for sixteen years. Allison received both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. In the years prior to her nursing career, she received a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Delaware followed by a Clinical Nutrition internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She continues to hold a credential as a Registered Dietitian.
Her work throughout her career to date has focused on successful onboarding and education of nurse practitioners in the pediatric critical care setting, particularly as it relates to procedural competency. She has published and presented on teaching and reinforcing airway management skills to nurse practitioners in the critical care setting. Additionally, her various leadership roles have given her the opportunity to develop and operationalize Advanced Practice Provider teams within pediatric critical care settings in addition to other inpatient and outpatient settings with an ongoing focus on care model work in partnership with multiple disciplines.
